How the pension is estimated

Gross pension is your last basic pay multiplied by your years of service and the standard factor of 7/300 per year, capped at 30 years (70% of basic). Most pensioners commute 35% of this into a one-time lump sum, calculated with the commutation table factor for age 60; the remaining 65% is paid monthly. With fewer than 10 years of service you don’t qualify for a monthly pension but receive a service gratuity instead. These are estimates — your department’s AG office issues the official figure.
